Aloha!

Bit of catch up blog:

Got a part time job at 'For Art's Sake' in Ealing, a nice little art shop where we take orders for framing and mounting as well as selling prints and ceramics. It's a cool little job, I've done a couple of shifts already, I'm learning and picking things up each time, so glad to have my money worry lifted.

As well as this I started a new internship at CHK Design, near London Fields. A small team of about 6 of us in this enormous warehouse shared by other companies/freelancers. It's incredibly friendly and I feel I've settled in only after 4 days of working there.

65 is still growing, we're working on the same 2 projects at the moment, some very interesting results with the Avenge Vulture Attack Videos! Stay tuned for that. But more importantly we have a REAL website (under construction) but it exists! GO HERE

I also designed gig tickets and a poster/flyer recently for the band The Heist, for their upcoming album launch on Sunday. Check it.

(Cheers to Pique for the photo)

I also feel this video should get more exposure, it's so funny, made by Mr funny man Alex Cruden:

So yeah catch you lot soon, I'll try and do more frequent posts I promise!

Paperfection continued. And a finding.

This is following a post I did all the way back in November, entitled 'Paperfection'. I was wanting to create a 2D digital image of a 3D piece. Sort of like a representation/optical illusion if you will. The '3D' piece is creased paper I obtained. I played around with some shades of grey and white and below is the result.

It's turned out okay in my opinion, there's a lot of potential for it but I'm finding it quite hard to fully capture it at the moment if I'm honest. One part of this I'm not convinced about is the textured marks from the paper itself that you can see in some areas, like the bottom right of the piece.
I think I don't like it.
Mainly because I don't want this to have any other aesthetic than the '3D-ish' look that I'm going for, so I'm concerned that this may go against it. But that could be me thinking too much into it. I would like to develop this further when I have some more free time. But yeah, looks alright really.

I re - found this the other day:

It's a t - shirt that my buddy Adam Grant made when we were all leaving our first ever house we lived in, in New Cross. Really funny as it brings back so many memories. It's a nice fact that myself (in the middle) Adam (with the green hair) and Mikee (with the console controller) are still friends and see each other. Haven't seen the 3 girls for a good while, think they just went their own paths, nothing personal (I hope not anyway) But yeah, nostalgia! Sigh!

Confessions of an old phone.

You know it's probably about time to get a new phone when you need tape to help it charge.

7 years and counting...

It's serving me well.

I will get an iphone when I get out of my overdraft, don't worry, I'm not a technophobe or anything, I just don't have a craving to have Facebook or Angry Birds on my phone or need to have the latest model of something. I like the fact that texting and calling is all I need. I can take photos and videos, but it's lame quality and I actually do have the internet on it - but it's more of a homepage that goes "You're on the internet!" rather than do anything else when you access it.

And as many of my friends can tell you, it saved me from getting mugged once. Thugs have standards too man!

Oh hey...

Neglected this space for a while haven't I?

Jobseekers front: I forgot to mention that after a month of not being paid, the matter was finally set straight, as if nothing had happened. It was ridiculous. It was literally like:

"So my claim has been suspended for the past month, any news?"
"Oh yeah, it's fine"
"Oh, thanks"
"You're welcome"

WUT?

So stupid, they paid me what I was owed, which was a relief. Couldn't complain further..

UNTIL!

The latest scandal, since I've been claiming for 6 months, it was time to call me up for a:

'2 week intensive job seeking course'

What the holy fudge is that? I hear you ask, well it's literally what I would have been doing before my internships, sitting at a computer, searching for jobs online. It. Was. So. Bad.
First off, the place is horrible, dim lighting, school - like rooms, full of people who haven't showered for a while, whilst saying the following:

"You hear about this Japanese fing?" (nearly 2 weeks after it happened)

‎"You don't drink?" " Nah man, last time I was drunk I tried to shank my best mate init"

This one time I boxed my Nan init"

"Bruv when I was a baby yer, I never ate, never slept neither"

And I swear to god those are all actual quotes. Deary me.

From it now though, I got 2 job interviews, one at a pub in Richmond and one at an Art Shop in Ealing, should find out in the next days the outcomes (I'd like to point out that up until the '2 week course' I had only ever been applying to Design jobs only. This is the first time in the 6 months I've applied into any other field, just to be clear)

Design Front: Our 65 collective is going from strength to strength, we're getting a nice following on Twittersaurous Rex and the band Avenge Vulture Attack have asked us to do a series of promotional visuals leading up to their album release and for their EP launch party too, exciting times.

On my end of that, I have finished their music video for their song 'Renew'. I won't show it yet, not till they release it onto iTunes and I get the all clear. But I showed it to them, and they seemed to really like it! So I'm very very relieved. I've turned my room back to what is was before (feels weird, but feels better Chi energy wise). Below are some photos of my white desk after the animation.

Literally the last shot of the whole thing. With the magic tape still in place.

Sans magic tape and some desk too, whey!

More to follow soon, need to get back into the swing of this blog malarky.
