Printmaking continued.

Continued a few more linocuts.

At this point I was re-acquintated with the delightful pleasure of applying a bit too much force onto the lino with the blade which subsequently went straight into my left index finger. Ouch.

I wanted to play around with the colour combination but keeping it fairly basic at the same time. I liked the idea of black silhouettes but also liked the look of red foxes, black and red ink it is.

Not a bad test, I definitely need to clean up some of the lino's as they're still a bit scruffy. I rushed the process of cleaning/drying the lino after each use so some of the ink was fairly watered down in the second batch. Still struggling to get an even ink spread, which I knew would be a problem doing them by hand. I should look into investing in some sort of press or find an open studio where I can pop in. Rob Hoey Comic.

From one fun project to another, shortly after our shoot with Pinch TV I got an email from Matt Bell asking if I'd be interested in an illustration job. I stroked my (lack of) beard and agreed enthusiastically.

The brief was to make an A2 sized comic, in the style of Beano/Beezer/Viz for Rob Hoey's birthday that was coming up, a surprise gift (quick note, Rob has received said illustration so this isn't some sort of spoiler post!). Matt wrote the script, and I went from there. It was a really fun project to do and something a bit different and (blowing my own trumpet) testing my versatility as an illustrator which is always welcomed.

I managed to get it printed off and dry mounted at the gallery I work at which was a huge convenient bonus. Some pictures:

The illustration after it's been dry mounted, it's basically a method of attaching prints and artworks to mounting surfaces by heating a shellac tissue between the mount and the print. Just so it's more durable and not as flimsy.

Phew, been a very busy month. Very glad I had this week off work (beside the rain part). Next step I would like to do is to start to build an ACTUAL website, we'll see how that goes.

Pinch TV.

It's been a busy month.

First things first, completely forgot to mention an exciting project that I took part in and should be out fairly soon. The company Pinch TV approached me to take part in a collaboration. They're an online magazine/web-episode based company who specialize in culture, remixed. The project they had lined up in mind for me was to collaborate with two comedians in the form of Matt Bell and Rob Hoey.

Without spoiling too much, the comedic duo are ghost detectives investigating some ghoulish shenanigans that are happening at a distressed woman's house (played by Olivia Campbell). I feature in the sense that I illustrate these ghouls as well as providing 'action shots'. It'll all become apparent and clear very soon when they release the episode - which quite honestly, I'm very excited about. The opening back and forth between Matt and Rob had me in stitches, it was very hard to keep a straight face.
